Diseases and Cures
Whitespot
- Tiny White spots (like salt) visible on fishes tails, fins as well as it body
- Rapid gill movement.
- Flicking and rubbing against objects
- Tank cures - Anti Whitespot, WS3 or Protozin.
- Pond cures - Medifin, Anti Parasite, Algazin (p) or Anti Whitespot.
Internal Bacteria
- Open sores
- Swollen eyes
- Abdominal swelling
- Reddening blood streaks under the skins surface
- Hollowing of the abdomen
- Loss of appetite, listlessness and a darkening of colour
- Tank cures - Anti Internal Bacteria.
- Pond cures - Anti Ulcer or Medifin.
Fungus
- Cotton wool growths on mouth.
- Cotton wool growths on the fishes body.
- Abdominal swelling
- Tank cures - Anti Fungus, Protozin or Fungus cure.
- Pond cures - Medifin, Algazin (P) or Fungus cure.
Finrot
- Tail or fins being eaten away.
- Tank cures - Anti Fungus and Finrot, Mxyazin, Melafix or Finrot cure.
- Pond cures - Anti Fungus and Bacteria, Medifin or Finrot cure.
Slime and Velvet
- White or grey patches of slime.
- Dusting of gold / yellow spots.
- Tank cures - Anti Fungus and Finrot, Mxyazin, Melafix or Finrot cure.
- Pond cures - Anti Fungus and Bacteria, Medifin, Bacterad, or Finrot cure.
External Parasite
- Disc or worm-like parasites attached to the skin or fins
- Maggot-like parasites in the fishes gills.
- Flicking and rubbing against objects.
- Rapid gill movement.
- Red, irritated areas of skin.
- Tank cures - Anti Crustacean Parasite or Sterazin.
- Pond cures - Sterazin (P) or Medifin.
Bacterial Swimbladder Infection
- Fish floats to the surface unable to swim down.
- Fish sinks to the bottom unable to swim up.
- Fish unable to swim upright in the water (rolls to either side).
- Tank cure - Swimbladder treatment. It is most effective when used with Aqualibrium tonic salt.

Prevention is better than cure !
Of course a lot of these diseases can be prevented by adding Tonic Salt to your aquarium, regularly checking the Ph and Nitrites, Keeping up with quarter water changes every 4 - 6 weeks, the temperature should be 75-80 F (24-26C).
